ENID, Okla. (AP) -- Enid residents will get to decide if 490 non-uniformed city employees can form a union.

The city's seven-member board of commissioners voted 4-to-3 Wednesday to allow Enid voters settle the issue.

City Manager Jerry Erwin said it's difficult to tell how Enid residents will vote at the September 13th election.

Last week, the city won a lawsuit that struck down a new state law requiring cities of at least 35,000 population to recognize non-uniformed employee unions. The state Supreme Court ruled the law was unconstitutional.

According to the Oklahoma Municipal League, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Norman and Muskogee allow their non-uniformed city employees to be represented by a union.
