The Oklahoma Council for Economic Education and Allegiance Credit gifted students at Putnam City's Apollo Elementary with more than 400 copies of the book “The Lemonade War.”
The Lemonade War is about two siblings who have competing lemonade stands.
It teaches students about personal finances, risk-taking, and entrepreneurship.
Apollo Elementary was chosen as the state model for OCEE's One Book One School. It’s a financial literacy program that's aimed at K through 5th graders.
Allegiance Credit Union Senior Vice President Brent Rempe said he thinks the program is invaluable.
“The concepts in the book are around starting a business and how to manage your money. These are things I wish I learned in school,” Rempe said.
The book comes in both Spanish and English and whatever that student speaks at home is the book they went home with.
Parents will also receive a copy of book along with a family guide - so students and families can read the book together.
