The Oklahoma Standard was shining bright today at the Tulsa Dream Center. On Friday, hundreds of volunteers gave away carts of free groceries to people in need during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
"I am so happy. I thank god," says Misty Williams.
Misty Williams got a full box of groceries on Friday and she says she is a single mom and can barely feed her family.
?"With the food and with money being tight being on a fixed income I just appreciate it," Williams told News on 6. ?
Tim Newton with the Dream Center says they give out groceries every Tuesday and Friday but now the need is greater than ever. ?
"Because of that, we have to respond even greater because that is what we are called to do.," said Newton.
For the first time, the Dream Center partnered with the non-profit Food on the Move who helped with donations. ?Executive Director Kevin Harper says to keep everyone safe during the COVID-19 Crisis, he made sure volunteers wore masks, gloves and delivered food right to people's cars. ?

"Everyone stays safe no one comes in contact with anyone because we want to make sure we keep public safety that's number one key as well as getting people to produce and food to take care of their families," Harper explained.
Williams says God was at work.
"God is good and this is a good thing because right now with the times that are going on right now people are in need and I thank god for it," Williams said with tears in her eyes. ?
Harper says over 35,000 pounds of food given out during Friday's giveaway. He says they believe over 5,000 people we served and $107,000 worth of boxes were given out.
He says Food on the Move and the Dream Center plan on doing another grocery giveaway on Tuesday, March 24th.
