Tulsa County leaders say work to widen and improve Wekiwa Road will start later this month.
The county is widening 7-miles from Keystone Dam to Sand Springs to make room for bike lanes and create a safer road for cars, pedestrians, and bicyclists. The stretch will be used as a portion of the bicycle leg of the Ironman competition next year.
"Our residents that drive this day in and day out are going to have a much better road and we will be able to welcome our Ironman guests from all over the country and the world and they will be able to see a decent road as their riding their bicycles," said Tulsa County Commissioner Karen Keith
Construction is expected to take several months.
