Christopher Ledbetter appeared wearing a Logan County jumpsuit and only spoke a few words.

For a brief moment, Ledbetter looked into the gallery and told his mother, “I love you.”

“They are trying to make us out like the Waco thing, which turned out to be a disaster anyway,” Ledbetter’s mother, Joann Johnson said.

The suspect’s mother was heartbroken as she left court.

Following a long investigation, the federal complaint states Ledbetter owned a fully automatic AK-47 that he didn’t have a license for.

Investigators said they used evidence from Ledbetter’s own YouTube channel.

Officers said agents were also searching for explosives. Ledbetter was running a compound, something his family says isn’t true.

The family offered a look around the property after federal agents cleared the scene. They said the entire investigation is built on lies from the McLoud Police Department.

Officers could not comment on the case.

Ledbetter said he is a former Marine who was recently pictured on the capitol steps during at the Black Lives Matter protest in Oklahoma City armed with an AR-15.

Family said he was serving as an EMT.

“The Black Panthers said, ‘Why are you here?’” Johnson said. “He said, ‘I am here to protect you in case someone tries to kill you.’”

Ledbetter could face 10 years in jail, if convicted, and a $250,000 fine.

Supporters have created two GoFundMe accounts to support his legal fight.

Neighbors were stunned by the show of force.

“I even asked him,” neighbor Johnny Jewell said. “He said, ‘You don’t need to know what we are here for.’”

Ledbetter will be in court at 9 a.m. Wednesday.
