Oklahoma City is considering a possible extension for its mask mandate until the end of November.
The current ordinance which requires a mask for anyone 11 and older in public indoor places expires September 8.
An extension is expected to be introduced to Oklahoma City City Council Tuesday.
The mayor said the current mask ordinance is working.
Since Oklahoma City passed its emergency mask ordinance a month ago, Mayor David Holt said cases have come down a third and hospitalizations have come down 20%.
“The results speak for themselves. I think it’s clear to anyone in the city that it helps,” said Holt.
In July, the mask mandate was an *emergency ordinance.
It required 7 out of 9 YES votes.
Extending the ordinance will only require a simple majority.
OKC City Council is expected to vote on the ordinance September 1.
