A newly-erected display at the Tulsa County Courthouse is raising awareness to the rising number of cyclists and pedestrians killed on Tulsa County roads.
The project is part of the Travel With Care campaign and created by the Indian Nations Council of Government. The display is made up of 19 pairs of shoes, each pair representing a cyclist or pedestrian that was hit and killed on Tulsa County roads last year.
The display also includes an area where viewers are encouraged to write down ideas they have that could lower the number of pedestrian and cyclist deaths and make roads safer for all travelers.
According to the Council, more than 80 people have died on Tulsa County roads in the past five years.
Jane Ziegler from the Indian Nations Council of Government said, "Sometimes, the conversations can get a little heated, which is fine. We just want to start those conversations."
According to council officials, the display will stay at the courthouse for a few more weeks before moving to another location within the county.
