Two Tulsa churches joined together to create a new church and Sunday morning will be their first service at their new building off East 21st street in Tulsa.
The merger with Tulsa Baptist Temple and Bible Baptist Temple happened on July 5th and the church is now called New Heights Baptist. Both Pastors from each church say, COVID made it a challenge to get to this point. However, Pastor Paul Gentry says this morning's service shows that God is not dead.
With the pandemic, Gentry says they struggled for several months to find a bank that would lend them money for the building, but they were able to find a bank in Owasso who was on board with their vision. Before the merger, both churches were hosting services through their YouTube and Facebook pages during the ban on public gatherings. He says even with the uncertainties of COVID, they are just excited to have a new home.
"No doubt, it's a little unnerving, you don't know what a merger is going to look like once it happens, you don't know how it is going to work, but we are so convinced that God is moving in this that all we are doing is walking in the light God has showed us," said Gentry.
The first Service begins at 10:30 Sunday morning with church leaders expecting more than 200 people to show up.
