The mother of a man accused of leading officers on yet another chase, said her son needs to learn his lesson.
News on 6 has covered Hunter Hines before for a previous chase that injured an officer, and for making a threat to then President Barack Obama.
Regina Striplin is Hunter’s mom and keeps a large file on her son, who she admits has gotten into a lot of trouble over the years.
"It's basically anything that's ever happened to Hunter in his life," said Striplin.
Hines, 25, got in trouble again on Tuesday morning when Tulsa Police said he sped off after a traffic stop, hit a police car, ran off and assaulted an officer. Striplin said Hunter didn’t want to be arrested on a traffic warrant.
Striplin said her son has been diagnosed with six different mental illnesses, but he refuses to take his medication. She said she's tried for years to help him.
"I finally concluded there's nothing I can do to help him,” said Striplin. “I've been messaging him for weeks telling him I can't fix you, you have to fix you. You have to be willing do something. I'm willing to help, but he has to meet me halfway."
In 2016, Hines slammed head-on into a Claremore Police car during a chase and was sentenced to six years in prison, but was released after two years, getting out just last year. Striplin said her son needs professional help and hopes he can get it before he’s released again.
"If he keeps being let out and not getting the help he needs, he's going to kill someone or himself," said Striplin.
While she loves her son, she said he'll pay for his actions again, likely in prison.
"The only person to blame right now is Hunter," said Striplin.
