Metro Christian is looking to bring home their second straight 2A title, using last year as motivation for Saturday's game with Washington.
After picking up the school’s first state title last year against Vian, Metro Christian had one goal this year: bring home another 2A title. Even though they are dealing with snowy like conditions this week, it hasn’t swayed the team’s confidence to make that goal a reality on Saturday.
"Last year it was like 55 and sunny, it felt really good last year and this year it’s going to be pretty cold but we are still ready,” running back Levi Korir said.
Korir has been a go-to guy for Metro’s offense, having rushed for over 1,000 yards and 12 touchdowns this season.
Korir hopes to have a solid performance against the Warriors to help improve his college recruiting.
"You know a lot of coaches are going to be there, so you just got to try and show out,” Korir said.
Washington enters the state championship with a 12-1 record and averaging over 40 points a game.
Head Coach Jarey McCoy said they present several challenges on both sides of the ball.
"They’re no stranger to the playoffs, they are no stranger to the finals game,” McCoy said. “Very aggressive defense, very talented offensively and impressive up front, move a lot of people around, a really good football team."
Kickoff is set for Saturday at 1 p.m. at UCO.
