Vandals Target Holocaust Children’s Memorial Statues At Museum Of Jewish Art

Tulsa police are searching for two men accused of causing more than $15,000 in damage to five Holocaust remembrance statues at the Sherwin Miller Museum of Jewish Art. 

Police said the two men were caught on camera knocking down the statues and attempting to steal them. 

Executive Director of the museum Drew Diamond said that vandalism of any kind is hurtful, but this is even more sad because of what these statues represent. 

They are to remember the children that were killed in the Holocaust. Inside of the statues are rocks that were painted by kids visiting the museum throughout the years. Each rock has the name of child murdered in the Holocaust on one side, and the age they died on another. 

He said he wishes these two men knew the importance of these statues. 

"We want them to understand what we're about in terms of our education needs and our work, particularly around Jewish Culture and around the Holocaust. You don’t have to vandalize our parks, just come in and we'll greet you and give you some coffee and talk with you," Diamond said. 

Diamond said they are going to do everything they can to make sure the two suspects are held accountable.
