Woodward Community Holds Vigil For 6 Victims Killed In Mobile Home Fire

Many in Woodward attended a vigil Wednesday night to honor six people who were killed in an overnight mobile home fire.

Seven people were in the home on Kansas Ave. when the fire broke out around 1 a.m.

Woodward Fire Chief Todd Finley said about three-quarters of the home was fully involved when crews arrived.

One firefighter rescued a child inside by smashing a nearby lawnmower into a window air-conditioning unit. He said it was impossible to reach the others.

"The heat was so incredible, even being low to the ground, it started to blister and melt (firefighters') masks," Finley said. "I've been at this fire department 22 years. I've never seen a fire of this magnitude.

Joel Cox, Shanda Noreuil, Kelsey Noreuil and three children perished inside, according to Ricky Noreuil, a sibling to Kelsey and Shanda.

"They were loved by a lot of people," he said.

The Woodward Ministerial Alliance identified the victims as relatives of Pastors Eric and Shelley Cox on social media.

Living Word Fellowship hosted a vigil for the victims of the fire. More than 100 people attended.

"I think seeing how many people care for ‘em might ease it a little bit. But I’m still kind of in shock," Noreuil said.

LWF also created a memorial fund for the family of Joel Cox on its website.
