A jury of six has been seated in the trial of a former Mannford police officer, accused of killing his police chief.
Officer Michael Nealey is charged with murdering Mannford Police Chief Lucky Miller while they were at a training seminar in Florida in 2019. Six jurors were selected for the trial Monday.
Nealey has been in custody in Escambia County, Florida, for the last year and a half.
Documents say a maintenance worker found Nealey sitting on top of Chief Miller in a hotel room and that Miller’s face was badly swollen. Documents say Nealey's hands were swollen and both his nose and lip were cut.
Investigators in Florida said they believe alcohol was a factor in the altercation. Nealey's attorney argued there is video’s on Chief Miller's phone that proves Nealey didn't have any criminal intent and also said that nobody knows what really happened.
Opening statements are scheduled for Tuesday morning.
