A metro family is torn apart following a double homicide in Del City.

According to police, one of the victims tried to rescue his niece from an abusive relationship.

“She can't get the images out of her head, seeing her husband and her niece killed in cold blood,” said family friend Mary Topaum.

A deadly confrontation played out on a front lawn.

“He's trying to claim self-defense. You don’t shoot two people in the head and point a gun at another person, sitting in the truck, and try to say self-defense when you're the one being the aggressor,” said Topaum.

Topaum said Aussie Paschal and his wife showed up at a Del City home just before midnight Saturday in hopes of rescuing his niece Lakota Woods.

“She was on the phone with a relative screaming that he was beating her up,” said Topaum.

But when Paschal pulled into the driveway, in a pickup captured on video, Topaum said Woods’ boyfriend Devonta Williams went berserk.

“Came running out the door just going crazy, screaming, yelling,” said Topaum.

Witnesses said Williams pulled out a gun.

“He shot the girlfriend in the face, then he kind of put her in his arms like oh my gosh, I shot her,” said Topaum.

Paschal's wife told police he attempted to shield her and his niece from further harm.

“That's the way we're raised. That's the way native men are raised. They are our protectors and that's exactly how he was,” said Topaum.

According to investigators, Williams then turned the gun on Paschal.

“He shot him in the head, the neck and the shoulder. He was pronounced dead in the ambulance on the way to the hospital,” said Topaum.

Topaum said justice is now in the hands of a higher power.

“I would encourage him to pray, to get down on his knees and ask for forgiveness and ask for the creator to have mercy on his soul,” said Topaum.

Police arrested Williams at the scene on two complaints of first-degree murder. aussie paschal, domestic dispute
