Crews are making progress on multi-million dollar renovations at Union High School’s Tuttle Stadium near 71st and Mingo. The project is expected to be completed by the start of football season this fall.

Construction started on the west side of the stadium in June 2020. At the same time, remodeling began on the east side stands.

As part of the new construction on the west side, new interior space will offer 60 feet of indoor turf for student-athletes to use in the new weight room. There will also be five new wrestling mats to split between the boys and girls teams.

Lee Snodgrass, Union’s Director of Special Projects, said this area will also be home to new training and nutrition rooms, coaches' offices and locker rooms.

The main concourse level is where most fans will have access to on gamedays. This area includes two new concession spaces, additional restrooms and new ticket booths.

There will even be a concession stand tailored for middle school students who may be on the move during games, offering grab-and-go items.

Even higher is the new press box, which Snodgrass said is about five times bigger than the previous one. This area will offer eight brand new suites for coaches, media and production.

There will also be a meeting room and hospitality space in the new box. On top of the box offers a new camera deck for the district’s production team and any other media outlets.

The field turf will be replaced at the start of the summer. The stadium is expected to be ready to go for the upcoming football season.

Future plans include constructing a new band building in the north endzone and replacing the existing scoreboard.
