Chanelle Lewis, 35, was originally arrested on complaints of manslaughter. On Tuesday, the complaint was modified to second-degree murder.
Investigators said Lewis ran her husband, Christopher, over with an ATV after he told her he wanted a divorce.
Christopher was taken to a Shawnee hospital where he died.
Lewis, according to the victim’s children, left the scene of the crime.
“She was ran down by the victim’s son, juvenile daughter and was confronted,” Palmer said. “She, according to them, tried to run over them. He (Chris’ son) was trying to get the keys out of the ATV.”
While attempting to get the keys out of the ATV, Palmer said Chris’ son assaulted Lewis.
Lewis told deputies she ran her husband over because he assaulted her.
Palmer said many witnesses were in the area at the time of the incident and state Lewis’ fatal acts were intentional.
The couple, from Noble, was visiting Soggy Bottom Trails with another couple at the time of the incident.
According to court records, In 2020, Lewis filed two petitions for a protective order alleging her husband assaulted her.
A Cleveland County judge dismissed both petitions.
