A U.S. Senate committee passed a bipartisan bill to protect endangered Native American languages.
The bill calls for more federal resources for teaching and preserving native languages.
Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Junior is urging the U.S. Senate to hold a full vote after the summer recess.
The bill is named for Durbin Feeling, an influential Cherokee Nation linguist who died last summer.
