The Tulsa Oilers hockey team is now under new ownership. The franchise announced on Tuesday that California businessman, Andy Scurto, has purchased the team.

Scurto currently lives in Silicon Valley but will move to Tulsa. He recently sold his software company and is getting into professional sports full time.

Right now, he owns two teams in the women's professional hockey league and wanted to own a team in the ECHL.

Working with a broker, he visited five cities, but said he chose Tulsa for a variety of reasons. He said he loves the downtown area, the BOK Center and the team already in place.

His goal is to grow interest in the franchise and hockey here in Tulsa through marketing and events. He also wants to sell out the BOK Center for every game.

"That's the key is to get people here to see what goes on,” said Scurto. “Make sure they have a great experience. Make sure it’s entertaining and they're loving it. They'll come back. They'll be interested in season tickets. And then when they see it's really not expensive to get season tickets to the Oilers, and it's fun."

The team's first home game at the BOK Center is on October 30 against Kansas City.
