More than 100 Tulsa Public Schools students, teachers and parents are walking to school Wednesday morning for National Walk to School Day, a global event to promote safety and physical activity.

Students at Council Oak Elementary School met at Woodward Park at 6:30 a.m. to walk to school.

International Walk to School Day is an event that happens around the world every October.

This is not the only location that TPS schools are meeting up, Disney Elementary is meeting at Christview Christian Church at 7 a.m., Hoover Elementary at Agape Bible Fellowship at 7 a.m. and Robertson Elementary at Charlie's Chicken at 7:05.

This is all to raise awareness of the need for safer routes for walking and bicycling and to emphasize the importance of physical activity.
