For the 17th year in a row, the marching band at Berryhill High School took home first place in the state championship for class 3A.

The Berryhill Blue and Gold Brigade was back on the football field days after winning the 3A Class State Championship. With each careful step, they performed at their very best for the crowd.

When they meet for practice during the week, the early mornings mean the moon is their audience. And they are still performing at their best.

"This is just a sneak peek of what we get to do every day,” Senior Averie McCloskey said.

McCloskey is one of the drum majors.

"My favorite part is the family and the community, because everyone will come together and support each other no matter what happens,” she said.

"I think we're all a big family and we all work together so well,” Sophomore Grace Blair said.

Blair has been playing the trumpet in the band for the past two years.

"It's an honor to be in that 17-year span,” she said.

"I actually had the privilege of going to school here and so that streak started my sophomore year. So, to be able to be a part of that, that streak, it's pretty special,” Band Director Alex Jones said.

Jones tried to find the state champion trophy from his sophomore year and ended up finding the school'sfirst state championship trophy instead. The band has won state 28 times over the years.

"'89, OK, I think this might be the very first one,” he said.

But even with the 17th win in a row, the Blue and Gold Brigade continues to look ahead.

"Something that we preach daily is consistency,” Jones said. “That's the key to success in anything."
