OU, OSU Among State's Universities Adhering To New COVID Vaccine Mandate For Employees

Oklahoma's two largest universities, the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University, are among several schools in the state where employees will now be required to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.

OU said its new mandate is reflective of President Biden's recent executive order which requires "federal employees, contractors and other identified individuals" to receive the vaccination. The order was issued by Biden on Sept. 9.

After a "careful legal assessment," the school said it will comply with the order.

Whether employees receive the Pfizer, Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccines, they must be fully vaccinated by Dec. 8.

OSU, which will abide by the same mandate, said in a letter Friday that employees will must have their final vaccination shot by Nov. 24 in order to meet the Dec. 8 deadline.
