The family of a man who's been missing for nearly two months is pleading for answers after he disappeared without a trace, right after he won a jackpot.
The Pawnee County Sheriff says this is one of the strangest missing person cases he's seen.
The last traces of Mike Young were found 44 days ago. It was his car, a black Acura. Sheriff Darrin Varnell says what's odd is how it was found.
The car was parked and abandoned in front of someone's driveway. The windows were all rolled down, the keys were still in the ignition, and Young's phone was left plugged in in the driver's seat.
"The more I dig, the weirder it seems," Varnell said. "The biggest thing that worries me is that there's been no reported sighting of him since the day that he disappeared."
The last time Patti Dickey heard from her brother was September 26th, at 2:09 in the afternoon when Young called her from a gas station's landline.
"Said he was on the way home, and also said he had 4,500 dollars," she said.
She says he'd just won the money from a casino. Surveillance footage from the gas station shows the last time anyone saw Young.
"It just makes me wonder if someone hurt him," Dickey said.
Sheriff Varnell says the way Young's car was left, in the middle of a driveway, just an hour after Young was last seen stands out.
You're not going to go park your car right in front of someone's driveway where it's going to immediately draw suspicion," he said.
He believes if someone wanted to disappear, they wouldn't have done it like that.
“We have since gone back, spent several days out there on foot, on ATVs brought in cadaver dogs, we have searched just about every square foot of this area back here with no sign whatsoever," Varnell said.
