A metro middle school employee is facing a forcible sodomy complaint after deputies said she sexually assaulted a student.
Investigators said they have proof she sent lewd messages to the teenager and assaulted him.
The Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office said school employees immediately reported the abuse they believe escalated from text messages to an app where nude pictures were sent and then forced sexual acts in Shannon Heslip's garage.
"This is plain and simple; this is sexual abuse. Regardless of the gender of the (staff member) regardless of the gender of the student, this is sexual abuse," Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office public information officer Aaron Brilbeck said.
While the OCSO said she is a teacher, Choctaw Middle School will only identify her as support staff. School staff reported contact that concerned them between the 45-year-old Heslip and the 14-year-old male student a little over a week ago.
Court documents show Heslip initially texted the student, but she suggested the conversation moved to Snapchat.
"We looked at his phone and determined that the (staff member) and student had been exchanging nude photographs," said Brilbeck. "The student also mentioned that there had been some type of sexual contact at the home of the (staff member)."
The contact between the two became physical in mid-October when the boy's parents looked for him at a local basketball court. Instead of being at the court, he was with Heslip.
"The (staff member) had picked him up at a basketball court, took him on a hike,” Brilbeck said. “They went out for ice cream. Afterwards, they went back to her house.”
Court records show Heslip took the 14-year-old into her garage "to talk.” Investigators said that's when she sexually assaulted the teen.
"It's just unfortunate that we as parents have to worry about this type of thing happening," Brilbeck said. “This child, and he is a child, could face serious long-term mental health issues as a result of the abuse he endured."
Heslip is facing a forcible sodomy complaint. She has since been released on a $50,000 bond.
The Choctaw-Nicoma Park Schools Superintendent David Reid released a statement in regard to the investigation.
“CNP administration was made aware of a situation which occurred with a Choctaw Middle School employee. Allegations of inappropriate communications via cell phone were made between a student and a support staff member. CNP immediately contacted the local law enforcement agency and cooperated in providing information for their investigation. This individual is no longer employed by the district.”
