The Tulsa Health Department believes the current surge in COVID-19 infections may be reaching its peak in Tulsa.
Health experts say even though cases are going down, community transmission is still very high.
The State Health Department reported nearly 1,000 new cases on Tuesday.
New cases are dropping in Tulsa County, but experts say that could be because of more at-home testing, which doesn't show in the state’s reported numbers.
The Tulsa Health Department says sewage samples in Tulsa still show high levels of transmission, but the good news is the level isn’t increasing.
"We're encouraged by the decrease in the community transmission we're seeing in the sewage, and that's going to follow in our case counts as well," THD's Dr. Buce Dart said.
Health leaders say Tulsa hospitals are still packed with COVID patients right now.
The health department says it is waiting to see if it will get help from the military to help with staffing.
Tulsa health leaders say it's important for people to continue taking precautions.
64% of those eligible in Tulsa County are fully vaccinated, and 40% have gotten their booster shot.
