One crew is rebuilding a "mitigation island," which is habitat for wildlife. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers required the city of Tulsa to build one because of how the Gathering Place changed the bank. However, it was swept away in the 2019 flood.

Other work involves the $48-million project to improve Zink Dam and Lake.

It will eliminate the undertow that was dangerous - and make the lake more than two miles long and three feet deeper, which will improve the fish habitat and make it more useful for rowing events.

The project should make it perfect for kayaking and tubing. The whole project is scheduled to be finished around the end of the year.
