Tulsa police are investigating after they say a man vandalized eight businesses near Route 66 and Peoria around 2:30 a.m. on Friday.
They say a man picked up water main hole covers off the street and threw them through about 10 windows with double-pane glass. Tulsa Police Sgt. John Woods said when the man couldn’t find any more covers, he used large pot planters instead. Many of the windows are completely shattered while others only have one of two layers of glass broken. TPD said nothing seems to be stolen, this was just random vandalism.
Police tell us they have detained a man for questioning but have not made any arrests. Woods said they are waiting to get the surveillance video from the business owners to confirm who is responsible.
Some of the businesses hit had multiple window panes shattered.
The businesses with smashed windows are:
Atelier MFR Owner and Artist Michelle Reid was one of the people who had a targeted business. One of her four storefront windows was shattered. She said this has happened to other stores along this strip of Route 66 before so she isn’t surprised it happened again.
“Now it’s time to clean up, fortunately, nothing was stolen, unfortunately, my window is broken but at least they didn’t take anything,” Reid said.
Tulsa Police said the water main covers have been put back into place and the scene cleared around 5 a.m.
