News On 6 is teaming up with Every Kid Counts Oklahoma to recognize innovative teachers from across Green Country.

This week, we’re recognizing Amanda Leatherland, a 2nd-grade teacher at Darnaby Elementary School.

"Outside of just being an amazing teacher who inspires her students daily, Mrs. Leatherland has also been leading one of our newest clubs at Darnaby, Little Bots. Darnaby has been offering a competitive robotics program for 4th and 5th-grade students for years, but this year we expanded to include our second and third-grade students. Mrs. Leatherland launched the program over the summer months and it has been one of our most sought-after clubs. Students build a small robot and learn the basics of coding all while innovating their designs to solve different obstacles."
"Mrs. Leatherland is organized, phenomenal at communicating with her families, and has even brought in a furry friend into her classroom for her students. If you’re looking for a teacher who is fostering a love of learning both inside and outside the classroom, look no further than amandine Leatherland."
