Tensions Rise In Oklahoma Co. District Attorney Debates

There were fireworks at the debate for Oklahoma County District Attorney Wednesday night.

Candidates sparred on topics from charging decisions within the district attorney’s office to fights over which law enforcement agency endorsed which candidate.

The bulk of fights were between current Oklahoma County Commissioner Kevin Calvey and Gayland Geiger, who leads the county’s child abuse and sex crimes unit.

News 9 and NonDoc.com asked both Republican and Democratic candidates about conditions inside the Oklahoma County Jail, alleged corruption at the State Capitol and sex scandals inside the county courthouse.

Candidates were also outspoken about the role of the district attorney when it comes to prosecuting police officers, something current DA David Prater has done in recent officer-involved shootings.

The GOP candidate debate featured Calvey, Gieger, Jacqui Ford and Robert Gray.

The Democratic candidate portion of the debate included former federal prosecutor, Vikki Behenna and Oklahoma City attorney Mark Myles.
