A new scam is targeting teenagers on social media.

Predators are exploiting teenage boys to send nude photos and then threatening to release the pictures if they don't pay them money.

Officers say it’s usually older men, often overseas, posing as young girls looking for a relationship.

That’s when they ask for explicit photos.

"As soon as that happens, the person who our victim thought was Jennifer turns into John, who's calling them through their smartphone demanding that they need to pay money or they're going to ruin their lives,” said Lt. Joshua Showman of the Sexual Predator Digital Evidence Recovery Unit.

Officers say to never send compromising photos in the first place and be extra cautious when talking to strangers online.
