AAA Route 66 Road Fest To Celebrate 100 Years Of The Famous Highway

An event this weekend will celebrate the upcoming 100-year anniversary of the iconic Route 66.

The Mother Road runs through our state and out to the west coast.

This event, known as AAA Route 66 Road Fest, will take people back in time and teach them about highway Route 66.

It will also showcase some future technology as well.

With gas prices up so high, this event is a way to experience something totally new and unique without having to go far.

There will be tons of gorgeous classic cars, plus for the first time in the state, people will be able to take a ride on a self-driving shuttle.

If you are not into cars, there will be tons of food, drinks, games and activities for kids.

There will also be music and an immersive experience that makes you feel like you are back in time experiencing different decades along Route 66.

Even those who don't remember the days before interstates spread across every inch of the country will understand the importance of the historic road that spread from Chicago to Los Angeles, with Oklahoma at the center.

"Route 66 is part of our character, as part of our soul as Americans and Oklahomans and the Corvette is the car of America,” said Jeff Kelley, President of Thursday Night Cruisers Car Club.

Doors open this Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Bennet Event Center on the OKC Fairgrounds.

Tickets range in price from $5 dollars for young kids to $20 for adults.
