A body was found floating in a river in Southwest Oklahoma City on Saturday. Police are now working to figure out who it is and how the body ended up there.
Police tell News 9 that the captain of a riverboat downtown saw the body near SW 15th and Walker and immediately called 911.
"Officers responded out there as well as the fire department where they located a deceased male," said MSgt. John Lapuzza, with Oklahoma City Police.
First responders pulled the body out of the water. A Medical Examiner later got to the scene and determined that there was no foul play involved. Right now, police say they're investigating this as a drowning.
"There were no injuries on the victim that would be consistent with any type of assault or homicide," said Lapuzza. "At least no visible injuries. His identity at this point is unknown."
Investigators say during this time of year, people need to be extra careful when walking along rivers like this.
"Especially on the South Canadian River," said Lapuzza. "There's a series of dams that go on that are on the river from that go all the way down from I-44 to eastern and stuff too."
Right now, it's unclear how the man got into the water and where he exactly came from. Police say the water in these rivers could rise quickly and they don't advise anyone to swim in these areas.
"If anything, always take precautions like life jackets and things like that even if you're going to be on a boat out there," Lapuzza said.
OKC police are asking anyone who was in the area or knows what happened to come forward.
