One of the Thunder's young guns has reportedly inked a long-term deal to stay in Oklahoma City.
According to ESPN, guard Lu Dort has agreed to a five-year extension with the team worth $87.5 million.
Dort is coming off of his best season as a professional, averaging 17.2 points and shooting a career-high 40.4 percent from the floor, while also maintaining his status as one of the NBA's best on-ball defenders.
The Thunder denied its team option on the 23-year-old's contract Wednesday, which allowed the club to make Dort a restricted free agent this summer. As a restricted free agent, the Thunder would retain the ability to match any free agent offer thrown Dort's way and keep him on the roster.
If OKC picked the team option up, Dort would have made $1.9 million for 2022-23 and then become an unrestricted free agent after the season. As an unrestricted free agent in 2023, Dort could have signed with any team, but the Thunder would not have had a say in his decision.
