A third person is charged in connection with the death of Phillip Clifton, of Roland, whose body was found near along the Washita River in Garvin County.

In April, Agents with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation arrested Homer Trout and Randall McClendon, both from the Oklahoma City metro area. Trout has been charged with second-degree murder and McClendon is accused of accessory to murder.

Trout is accused of fatally shooting Clifton on April 4th, and agents say McClendon dropped the body at the river near Lindsay.

On Friday, Oklahoma County prosecutors filed accessory to murder charges against Richard Spencer of Southwest Oklahoma City.

Agents wrote in charging documents that Trout called on Spencer to help move the body, which was wrapped in pink plastic and a blanket, into a Chevrolet Tahoe before it was moved to Garvin County.

Spencer allegedly told the OSBI that initially he didn’t know a body was inside. “It looked like a wet roll of carpet, and it smelled bad,” agents wrote in court documents detailing their interview of Spencer.

After learning a body was inside, Spencer allegedly wanted no part of what was happening. Spencer told Trout “to call the police,” according to charging documents. “Spencer said he was not good with this, and advised he was not going to dump anybody anywhere.”

Trout told Spencer that Clifton “tried to rob” him, the OSBI wrote.

Trout left the car and the body on Spencer’s property on SW 74th St, according to agents. McClendon picked it up later evening to drive it down to Garvin County.

An arrest warrant was issued for Spencer on Friday. As of Monday evening, he was not in custody.
