The Tulsa Dream Center held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the new pool and splash pad project worth $1.5 million.
More than 1,000 people donated to the project.
The indoor pool will be used mainly for swimming lessons as part of the Dream Center's after-school tutoring and summer camps.
There are also plans to train teenagers to become life guards and help them with job skills.
"This pool will be accessed to all boys and girls in our community, it's gonna be a full instructional pool. Our goal is to teach boys and girls how to swim, so we'll be holding swim classes for boys and girl -- as well as aerobics for our elderly and individual adults who like to come out. We even host some adult swim classes at well, teaching people how to swim. We understand that the highest cause of death of young people under age of 12 is drowning, and wanna make that does not happen in our community," said Tim Newton, Tulsa Dream Center Executive Director.
The Dream Center is now raising money to pay for staffing and operational expenses.
