Millions Affected By Oklahoma Student Loan Authority Data Breach Leak

A data breach leaks personal information for millions of people who have student loans, including some who have loans from the Oklahoma Student Loan Authority.

Nelnet Servicing, used by the OSLA, said its system was compromised for nearly two months this summer.

Investigators said some personal account information -- including names, mailing and email addresses and social security numbers -- may have been accessed at this time.

An attorney for OSLA emailed News On 6 the following:

Forensics identified approximately 2.5 million borrowers with student loans serviced by Edfinancial and OSLA that were affected by this incident. Approximately 2.2 million affected borrowers are assigned to Edfinancial, while approximately 250,000 are assigned to OSLA. Of the accounts serviced by OSLA, 1,477 borrowers live in Oklahoma.
