Oklahoma could change the way it passes State Questions, if a proposal in the state legislature passes.

Right now, only a simple majority is needed to pass state questions.

McCurtain Republican Senator Warren Hamilton has filed a Joint Resolution to change the threshold from 50 percent to 66 percent.

It also says that if the statewide vote hits that threshold but not all the counties do, the new rules would only be enforced in counties that passed it with a two-thirds majority.

Senator Hamilton says this change would give rural Oklahomans a voice.

He introduced a similar proposal during the last legislation that failed.
