Local Clinic Providing Health Care For People Without Insurance

Getting in to see a doctor can at times be a challenge, but without insurance, it can be almost impossible

“What a lot of people need to know is that they have options even if they feel they don’t,” said Morgan Rozzell, a nurse practitioner at Good Samaritan Clinic.

Mercy hospital’s Good Samaritan clinic at 4505 Memorial Cir. in Oklahoma City, opened in 2018 with one purpose; to provide quality health care for anyone that doesn’t have insurance.

“I think for patients that sometimes translates into you’re getting substandard care and we don’t want patients to feel that way,” said Rozzell.

Through the clinic, patients have access to services they typically would not be able to receive.

“We are able to get blood work and x-rays done for free. So, all of our patients get a full adult healthy physical exam,” said Rozzell.

The clinic also recognized the need for help with prescriptions.

“A lot of our patients have to make decisions between am I going to feed my family or am I going to pay for my medicine,” said Rozzell.

They provide prescription assistance programs, and when possible, try to prescribe off a $4 list. The staff also works with patients to see if they qualify for Medicare or Medicaid insurance options.

A huge benefit for the patients is the interpreter service. A bilingual interpretive system that allows the patients clear communication with the doctors.

After taking care of the medical needs the staff realized there was still more to be done.

“We also have a delivery from the food bank once a week to help provide produce and food to our patients,” said Rozzell.

As rewarding as it is for the patients, the workers are equally satisfied.

“Just to be able to work in a setting where we can meet a need that hasn’t been being met, is just so rewarding it’s unbelievable,” said Rozzell.

One word used a lot at the clinic is dignity. It is something patients come in with and leave with.
