A race car driver is heading home to Oregon after a wreck during the Chili Bowl Nationals in Tulsa.

A race car driver is heading home to Oregon after a wreck during the Chili Bowl Nationals in Tulsa.

The crash flipped 16-year-old Ashton Torgerson's race car and threw him out.

He was hospitalized with a brain bleed.

His team is now looking for defects in the safety equipment and his father released a statement saying the equipment was checked before the race.

"I'm a little sore but we'll get through that," said Torgerson. "I can't thank anyone enough for all the things they've done."

Just days after the crash, he was cleared to be released after undergoing multiple CT scans and tests.

Several racers, including two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch, have reached out to the Torgerson family to with them well.
