Avery Bates had not seen her brother, Austin, in about a year because he has been serving in Kuwait. However, Austin surprised Avery during her music class, leading to a heartwarming reunion.
It’s always a heart touching moment, watching the videos of military service men and women returning home to surprise their family.
What started off as a normal day in music class, would be a day this seventh grader would never forget.
While we talked with Avery about her love for her brother, Austin anxiously waited just outside the door.
The surprise was secretly orchestrated by their mother Desiree and planned by the school administration at Highland East Jr. High School in Moore.
“Avery and her brother are super close, they talk three or four times a week, they are constantly in touch with each other,” their mother said. “So I thought it would be a really nice surprise for him to come and surprise her at school.”
“It wasn’t really supposed to be turning out into this big thing, but just the right people got to just the right connections and here we are now,” said Austin Bates.
Austin enlisted exactly 2 years ago today. He is currently stationed in Georgia but has been overseas in Kuwait.
“Yeah, I was pretty sad, knowing he was going to be gone for a while. It really hurt my heart,” said Avery Bates.
Even though the two talk constantly, they plan to be inseparable for the two weeks that Austin is in town.
“I guess we’ll just hangout and go out to eat, yeah probably go catch a movie and go out to eat, just have fun and catch up,” said Austin.
