Muskogee police are looking for a killer after a man was shot in the head March 4 in an apartment near 6th Street and West Martin Luther King.
The victim's friends told News On 6 they do not know why anyone would hurt a man who got along with everyone.
People who call the close-knit apartment building home said they cannot believe one of their neighbors had been murdered there.
Police said someone called 911 Saturday afternoon around 1:30 about a shooting.
Windi Napier lives there and said she did not hear any fighting before the gunfire.
"I was outside with my dog, taking her for a walk, and all of a sudden, I heard a 'pop'," said Napier.
Officers said 51-year-old Christopher Johnson had one gunshot wound to the head.
Leonard Trimble said Johnson had been living with him for a year and enjoyed playing pool.
"Chris was a nice person,” said Trimble. “He treated everybody right."
Police said Johnson died at the hospital Sunday.
"Chris was a very good guy,” said Napier. “He helped me out a lot. He was like a brother to me."
Officer Lynn Hamlin said investigators do not yet know what led to the shooting or if the victim and killer knew each other.
"Any time you have a shooting that happens in your community, you're obviously concerned about it, and you want to get that person in custody," said Hamlin.
While police are trying to find leads, Johnson's neighbors and loved ones said they hope the case is solved as soon as possible.
"I wish they would catch them,” said Napier. “He deserves justice."
Police said this is Muskogee's first deadly shooting of the year.
If you know anything that could help investigators solve this case, call Muskogee police.
