The NCAA wrestling championship at the BOK Center is getting a lot of attention. Former President Donald Trump is expected to be there Saturday.
Senator Markwayne Mullin invited Trump to watch the championship with him.
Tulsa is hosting the NCAA wrestling championship for the first time, and tens of thousands of fans are expected each day.
For the last day of the event, the BOK Center is also expecting former President Trump.
Oklahoma has seen several visits from presidents and candidates over the last few years, but visits from former presidents are rare.
Former President Bill Clinton visited the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum in 2015.
"You have reminded us that we should all live by the Oklahoma standard: service, honor, kindness,” Clinton said in his speech.
Just two years ago, George W. Bush threw the ceremonial first pitch at OSU’s new baseball stadium.
As everyone prepares for Trump's travel to Tulsa, the City said Tulsa Police are coordinating with the Secret Service, and will help with street closures or anything else as needed.
Officer Danny Bean does not expect there will be any extra officers on the streets because of Trump's visit.
"We’re aware he’s coming. For us it's not our responsibility. For us we’re business as usual, do everything we can at the event at the BOK and the events going down Cherry Street and downtown,” Bean said.
The BOK Center said the former president's visit will not have an impact on security procedures for wrestling fans as they make their way inside.
The Republican Party of Tulsa County expects Trump to arrive at the BOK just before 5:30 Saturday and is encouraging supporters to gather downtown.
Tickets are still available for the championship.
