The Guthrie Police Department are adding new technology around the city that will help alert authorities about serious crime.
The cameras, provided by Flock Safety, are an automated license plate reader that will alert officers about missing persons reports and stolen vehicles.
Authorities said the cameras cost $61,000 total, and are funded through a grant from the National White Collar Crime Center.
Guthrie City Council approved the measure back in November, however privacy concerns were brought up.
Guthrie Police said the technology will not read expired tags or watch for petty crimes.
“Officers will not just show up to that call and arrest you, we must check step by step to make sure everything is accurate," says Guthrie Police Sgt. Anthony Gibbs said.
Ten cameras will be installed within city limits, and two more outside of town. Footage is owned by the Guthrie Police Department, but once the footage is stored for 30 days, it is deleted out of the system.
