Bethany Children's Health Center Has Prom For Patients

It’s prom season everywhere, even at Bethany Children's Health Center. 

“We are the country’s largest freestanding pediatric rehab center,” said Nico Gomez, CEO of Bethany Children’s Health Center. 

The facility serves close to 300 children and teenagers every year with complex medical and physical disabilities, and every year patients and workers look forward to the prom. 

“This is prom at Bethany Children’s health center and it’s just a big party for the kids,” said Gomez.  

All the fun isn’t just for the kids. 

“We have a lot of families here celebrating with their kids and then also we have a lot of staff who care very deeply about these kids and want to celebrate with them,” said Gomez. 

There is a lot that goes into making this event extra special for the kids. 

“All the decorations, all the planning, it takes a lot of volunteers, and just a lot of blood and sweat and tears to get this done, but then it’s a party, a celebration,” said Gomez.  

This year they brought in OSU hype man Les Thomas to keep the fun going. 

“Every kid deserves a prom, so when I walked in and I looked at how they decorated the room, I said come on, let’s do it. If you’re going to do it, do it big,” said Thomas.  

For Thomas, these events are extra special. 

“It’s important to me to give back to the community, use the voice that God has given me and make sure that these young people have a great time,” said Thomas.  

“They get a chance to be a part of something that’s very normal in every other community and every other school and we want that here at Bethany Children’s Health Center,” said Gomez. 

“Encourage them, inspire them, and let them know that they are seen, they’re heard and we love them,” said Thomas.
