An Edmond business owner is encouraging others to stay alert as Edmond Police investigate a string of burglaries along South Bryant near East 33rd.
“You just feel violated, and that's the bottom line,” Elizabeth Zuckermandel, the owner of Clean Juice, said.
According to Edmond Police, at least three businesses, all close in proximity, were burglarized Thursday morning between 4 and 5 a.m.
“This is a personal and financial attack on me and my family,” Zuckermandel said.
Zuckermandel said she was asleep at home with her family when she got an alert.
“There were multiple dings as far as door entries and also window movement, and stuff like that,” Zuckermandel said.
Zuckermandel’s phone alerted her to a possible break-in at her store that recently opened in December.
“We jumped in the car, got here as soon as we can,” Zuckermandel said.
A check of her security footage confirmed her fears.
“Saw that someone had come through the back door and did take our cash register,” Zuckermandel said.
Video showed the masked man ditched the register on the floor after he spotted the business’s safe.
“He just one armed it, 50 to 70 pounds and hightailed it out. He was only in here 60 seconds,” Zuckermandel said.
With the safe in one hand, and a backpack loaded with stolen electronics from Swig and Tropical Smoothie Cafe, the thief scurried outside, and then tossed the stolen items over a steep ravine and disappeared.
“This wall is a big jump down there, but he found the one dirt pile and landed softly. His footprint was there,” Zuckermandel said.
Zuckermandel watched the video and said she felt shocked and angry.
“This is our retirement, this is our future, and just for some jerk to come in and think he can take whatever he wants it's not going to fly,” Zuckermandel said.
The small business owner said she hoped the experience would bring businesses and the community closer.
“New businesses are popping up everywhere and we just need to be vigilant, and look out for one another,” Zuckermandel said.
With so many businesses located in and around the Spring Creek Plaza, police asked that business owners review their cameras from Thursday morning.
