The Blue Star Mothers in Claremore send out care packages as a way to say thank you to our troops serving our country.
The group said it's running low on supplies and needs donations as they hope to pack 300 more boxes.
"They love it, it lifts their spirits, boosts their spirits, and makes them feel like people at home still care," said Vice President, Penni Holmes.
The nonprofit sends boxes filled with toiletries and snacks to troops from Oklahoma stationed all over the world.
"Most of our packages right now are going to Africa, but we have some in the middle east, pretty much everywhere," she said.
They have already packed 250 boxes and are committed to packing 300 more.
Holmes said they desperately need donations to get the boxes filled and shipped out.
"Each box is about 15 dollars, just for the postage, and there is probably 70 dollars' worth of stuff in every box so that adds up quickly," she said.
Holmes has been with Blue Star Mothers for about 12 years. She said she was inspired to start helping after her son joined the Air Force.
"When my son made the decision to join the military, I followed his example, and wanted to do something to serve my country," she said.
She said it's important to give back to the men and women who do so much for our country.
"They do so much for us, being away from their friends, and their families, it's a huge sacrifice and we need to honor that," she said.
The Blue Star Mothers will be collecting donations Friday, May 26, at the Will Rogers Rodeo in Claremore.
A group in Afton will also be collecting donations at the community center on June 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
