Paradise Beach Water Park opens Saturday morning, May 27, in Tulsa, after three months of the new owners cleaning up and make repairs in advance of opening day.

The park, on the Tulsa County Fairgrounds at 21st and Yale, first opened as “Big Splash” in the 1980’s, later becoming “Safari Joe’s H2O” before changing hands again earlier this year.

“You can imagine a park that's been here this long, the underside gets a little tired,” said Suzye Worley, the Customer Service Manager, as she described work that touched every spot in the park. “It started at the very front, and went all the way back and they've hit every place they can in a very short time.”

Paradise Beach will be open every day for the summer.

“Friday and Saturday will always be 10 a.m. days. They'll be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., those are our long days. The other days are 11 - 7, then Thursday 11-6, with an evening session, a night swim for adults,” said Worley.

The new owners had new pumps installed in the wave pool, and they believe it’s more powerful than it’s been in years.

The pools and slides have all been resurfaced in varying degrees, with more upgrades planned once the season ends.

Hundreds of new tubes were being inflated on the eve of the opening.

Tulsa County is the landlord for the park, and Commissioner Stan Sallee said he’s happy to see the new investment.

“From what I've seen they've made some tremendous improvements and I think it's going to be a better experience for the public," he said.

Worley recognized the landmark status of the park, where many people who went as children now have children of their own.

“I think we'll see a lot of people who want to see what's new at this site since it's been here a long time. They just want to see what the new life looks like, so I think we'll have a good crowd,” she said.
