Family Member Of Saint Francis Shooting Victim Files Lawsuit Against Hospital

The attorney for the family of William Love explained why the family decided to sue Saint Francis, after Love was shot and killed there in 2022.

Attorney Ray Maples said the hospital should have had security measures in place to stop something like this from happening.

He said while places like courthouses have metal detectors, a busy place like a medical complex should have the same.

"Just put up barriers. It's not hard. Put up barriers. Lock down doors," he said.

He said on that day, there should have been at least security cameras and security officers who maybe could have stopped the shooter.

"Can you promise nobody gets hurt, probably not. Can you promise my client doesn't get hurt, yes. My client is on the second floor, in the back of a doctor's office. But if security had been there, at least it would have been a fair fight," he said.

He said the family is devastated by this tragedy, and it could have been prevented.

"I just hope that people really pay attention and realize that this is a real, serious problem. And if we all just do a little bit extra, we can prevent some of these from happening, if not most of them," Maples said.

Saint Francis said it has a policy that doesn't allow them to comment on any type of pending litigation.
