TULSA, Okla. - A hot day is ahead for people across Green Country after an intense storm knocked out power for thousands.
Here are the details from News On 6 Meteorologist Alan Crone:
A ridge of high pressure in the mid-level of the atmosphere will bring a sunny sky and warm weather along with above-normal afternoon highs. The pattern will keep major storm systems away from the region for the next few days, but some low-end chances will remain for a select few locations.
Significant power outages continue across portions of northeastern Oklahoma due to the destructive thunderstorm activity this past weekend. As temperature and humidity rise, heat advisories will be issued for these power outage areas as heat index values from 95 to near 100 degrees will be likely this afternoon in these regions. Normal heat advisory criteria start at 105, but advisories will be issued on Monday in the power outage areas due to the increasing heat stress that will be possible.
Mid-level ridging will keep major storm systems away from the area for the next several days. There will be a small window for a few showers and storms late tonight into pre-dawn tomorrow across extreme southeastern Oklahoma into northeast Texas. Another complex of strong or severe storms may drop down southeastern Colorado into far northwestern Oklahoma late Wednesday night. The majority of northeastern Oklahoma will remain dry for the next several days, but we’ll have a low chance of a shower or storm from Thursday morning to midday.
By this weekend, the upper air flow will present a small window of opportunity for the northwest flow brushing far northeastern Oklahoma. This will support a mention of a storm complex to move from the central plains states into part of our area, but the probability remains low for this forecast update.
A disturbance is noted in the central tropical Atlantic basin this morning. Showers and storms are located a few hundred miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands that may develop into a tropical depression later today and into a tropical storm soon.
Thanks for reading the Monday morning weather discussion and blog.
Have a super great day!
