Jordan McBride is facing two counts for endangering others while eluding police officers and assault and battery upon a police officer.
This foot pursuit on July 16 started as a chase. Dashcam video showed a red SUV speeding through neighborhoods in southwest Oklahoma City.
“One of our officers was in the area of southwest 62nd and Independence. They spotted a vehicle there that was dragging what appeared to be some type of metal object underneath. The vehicle was causing some sparks on the ground,” Sgt. Dillon Quirk with the Oklahoma City Police Department said.
Police said they turned on their emergency lights and sirens, but McBride didn't stop. Officers were able to corner McBride at a dead end, but he still found a way to escape.
“Officers tried to get him out of their vehicle, remove that driver from the vehicle, again simply refusing to stop. Driving past the officers’ vehicle, pulling the officer as they were trying to remove that driver,” Quirk said.
Police said the driver is okay. The chase continued, and police used a tactical maneuver on the SUV near Southwest 50th and Walker.
“Unbeknownst to them that vehicle was taken in an armed robbery or carjacking,” Quirk said.
Before the pursuit, a probable cause affidavit said McBride "pointed a gun at the victim and made him get into the passenger seat."
“The victim was held in that vehicle and at some point… the victim was able to escape and call 911,”Quirk said.
Court documents also said the victim was held against his will for about 30 minutes before he was let out near Reno and Classen.
McBride is in custody at the Oklahoma County Jail. His bond is set for $10,000.
