TULSA, Okla. -

A wet Christmas Eve morning is in store for eastern Oklahoma, but Christmas Day is expected to bring dry and seasonable weather, according to meteorologist Megan Gold.

What to Expect for Christmas Week:

Sunday:

Weather: Sunny and dry with gusty south winds at 25-30 mph.
Highs: Mid to upper 50s in southern Oklahoma, low to mid-50s in northern areas.
Lows: Mild overnight temperatures due to cloud cover.

Monday:

Morning: Cloudy with scattered drizzle and showers.
Afternoon: Highs in the mid-50s but minimal warming due to heavy cloud cover.
Night: Heavy rain begins, especially in eastern Oklahoma, continuing overnight.

Tuesday (Christmas Eve):

Morning: Heavy rain expected from midnight through early morning, especially east of Tulsa.
Afternoon: Rain pushes eastward with clearing skies and possible sunshine west of Tulsa.

Wednesday (Christmas Day):

Dry and seasonable with highs in the mid to upper 50s.

A Parade of Storm Systems Next Week

A series of upper-level troughs will move across the central and southern Plains states next week, bringing shower and thunderstorm chances.

The first system arrives Monday night and early Tuesday, the second potentially Thursday, and the third Friday into early Saturday.

While the exact timing may change, Christmas Day appears to be between storm systems.

Christmas Eve Weather: Rain and Thunderstorms Nearby

Cloudy conditions are likely Monday with south winds at 15 to 25 mph. Low-level moisture will stream from Texas into parts of Oklahoma, with deeper moisture likely residing along the Red River Valley into North Texas.

As the shortwave approaches the area and a surface low-pressure system moves across northern Oklahoma, scattered showers and some thunderstorms will be likely by late Monday evening into early Tuesday.

Rain Timeline

Showers and thunderstorms will likely continue early Christmas Eve morning across most of eastern Oklahoma and should progress across the southeastern sections of the state by mid-morning. Christmas Eve afternoon temperatures are likely to stay in the mid to upper 50s.

🎄Christmas Day🎄: Mild Temperatures

Christmas morning will feature lows in the mid to upper 40s and daytime highs in the upper 50s and lower 60s. The next strong upper-level trough will quickly approach the area by late Wednesday night, producing shower and storm chances Thursday.

Christmas Forecast

A powerful upper-level system is expected to near the state, with deeper low-level moisture anticipated across Texas into the Ark-La-Tex region, where severe storms are possible. Moisture may persist across far eastern Oklahoma, bringing a low-end threat for strong to severe storms Thursday in our eastern sections.

Next Friday into Saturday

A shortwave will be nearing the area Friday night into early Saturday, but specific data remains inconsistent. Showers or storms are currently expected to be slightly east or southeast of our immediate area where severe weather parameters will be increasing.

But the timing could change and bring chances into our areas. Additional changes to this portion of the forecast will be possible, even more likely.
